Plymouth Photographer Captures Amazing Video of Swimming Whales

When you find yourself at the right place at the right time, hopefully you have a camera ready.

A Plymouth-based photographer was seemingly in the right place on Wednesday afternoon when a pod of whales came to the surface for a lovely display in front of a modern-day pirate ship.

It was a majestic moment and the entire encounter was caught on camera.

Ken Grille has been a professional photographer for eight years. Grille, originally from New York, has a portfolio filled with celebrity red-carpet moments and snapshots of New York Fashion Week, but now that he resides in Plymouth as a semi-retired photographer, he finds himself capturing nature and wildlife.

On Wednesday afternoon, Grille joined in on a whale-watching tour with Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises and certainly got his money’s worth.

“We got right outside of Provincetown and I noticed this tall ship that was never out there before that was passing through, and I thought to myself, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if some whales popped up right in front?'” Grille said.

As if the whales heard his thoughts, about eight of them came to the surface and enjoyed a swim right in front of the tall ship, which made for a great photo op and a stunning video.

Grille’s video has amassed over 7,000 views online.

“People really seem to like it,” he said.

We can see why. It’s like a scene out of an old-timey New England storybook coming to life in the modern day.
