Part of my teen years were spent living in NYC's Washington Heights, back when it was still beautiful, clean and safe.

My memories surround all of my Jewish friends and their wonderful families who introduced this Greek kid to delicious latkas (potato pancakes), homemade apple sauce, fried sufganiyot (filled donut rounds) and melt-in-your-mouth Hanukkah Brisket!

I learned the meaning behind the miracle of oil that burned for 8 days and how to say a few words in Yiddish and Hebrew. As this joyous time begins, may the lights of Hanukkah brighten your homes and hearts, the same way you illuminated mine. I hope you are blessed with happiness, prosperity and peace today and always!

chag Hanukkah sameach!! Happy Hanukkah from the kid of PS 115!
