For the opening of Dunkin' Donuts first store in Southern California, people were lined up outside the new Los Angeles location hours before its 5 a.m. opening on Tuesday morning. By 6 a.m., more than 200 people were waiting in the line that stretched for several blocks in what Eater.com called a "cronut-like" craze.

Among them were some East Coast transplants who missed the Massachusetts-based chain, including the first person on line, a Connecticut native who called himself Johnny Hoops, who said he'd been waiting outside the store since Sunday, and got a year's worth of free Dunkin' Donuts coffee for it.

The chain, which has more than 11,000 stores around the world, opened its first in Northern California in Modesto last month, and now has one in L.A. The company says it has agreements for more than another 150 in the state.
