Ward 3 in New Bedford is having a special preliminary election for ward councilor on Tuesday, March 28. The New Bedford Democrat City Committee has invited 5 out of 6 candidates to field questions from voters. The sixth candidate need not apply for this forum because Jill Ussach, a former elected school committee member, is a Republican. Mind you, this is a nonpartisan election, but the local Dems have made it one.

We have enough division in the country. Now it's brought to the local grass roots level. Political immaturity is when one acts in a juvenile way and stiff arms others over different political opinions that they may not agree with. In this nonpartisan ward election, John F. Kennedy sums it up perfectly, "Let us not seek the Republican answer, or the Democratic answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."
