One man is dead, another seriously injured following a single car accident in New Bedford early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred about 12:30 in the southbound side of Route 140, south of exit five.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling north when it went off the roadway to it's left, rolled over and went through the median strip, before coming to rest in the southbound lane.

A male passenger in the vehicle was declared dead on the scene.  The male driver of the vehicle was seriously injured and airlifted to Rhode Island hospital for treatment.

The identities of both victims are not being released at this time.

Investigators don't know what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.  The investigation is ongoing.
