President Obama is asking Congress for new war powers for the fight against ISIS. Obama has sent lawmakers a formal request for an Authorization for Use of Military Force,

Speaking from the White House, the President said U.S.-led airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq and Syria are having an impact. He called it an ongoing, difficult mission but vowed that ISIS will be defeated.

The President has been working under a Congressional authorization that was approved after 9-11, which is widely seen as outdated.

The President's request would not authorize longterm, large-scale ground combat operations. It would also not rule out the use of U.S. ground forces in limited, temporary operations. (Metro Network Inc.)
