President Obama is honoring the 2015 Teacher of the Year.

Shanna Peeples is a high school English teacher in Texas. In a White House ceremony, the President said Peeples sets high expectations and is confident that her students are going to do "amazing things." Peeples said school is a place where many students "learn to dream." Peeples teaches English to refugee students.

President Obama also praised the runners-up in the annual competition. He said they are "selling hope, sparking imagination and opening up minds." Obama also noted that the U.S. is "hungry for more teachers like these."

Nominees for Teacher of the Year are chosen by a national selection committee representing major national education organizations.
