New research provides the strongest evidence yet that eating nuts can lower your risk of dying from cancer, heart disease and a number of other causes. The study published Wednesday involved more than 118,000 healthy volunteers.

Research at Harvard University found that people who ate a one-ounce daily serving of walnuts, cashews, almonds or other tree nuts were 20% less likely to die from any cause during the 30-year study. The study found that nut-eaters enjoyed longer lifespans even if they didn't exercise, avoided fruits and vegetables and were overweight.
