New Bedford Police Officer Resigns After Missing Pill Connection
A veteran New Bedford police officer has resigned in connection with some 50 percocet pills that were discovered missing from police custody.
New Bedford Mayor John Mitchell says that Sgt. John Pereira, a 19 year veteran of the force and a member of the police dive team is the sole subject of the investigation. Chief David Provencher says that the case has been turned over to the Bristol County D A's office for investigation and added that Pereira likely violated dept. rules and procedures. Video tape surveillance of the locker where the pills were kept provided key evidence for the case.
