After a several week investigation, New Bedford Police have arrested two city residents on drug trafficking charges.

Police stopped a rental car around 9:30 Wednesday night at Union Street and Route 18. The car was being driven by the female suspect of the investigation with her boyfriend in the passenger seat.

Police searched the couple and found 124 grams of heroin in the boyfriend's possession, and found packaging material and a digital scale during a search of the female's apartment.

The heroin has an estimated street value of $12,000.

The suspects, identified as 45-year-old Nicole Gillihan and 38-year-old Jonathan Carney were arraigned in New Bedford District Court this morning.
