The Southeastern Massachusetts Commuter Rail Task force met in New Bedford Wednesday and heard from Mayor Jon Mitchell.

The Mayor told the task force that the commuter rail project has enormous potential to integrate the area's economy with the rest of the state with the rail being good for both tourism and industry.

Mitchell added that the city has already begun planning for an additional spoke of train tracks to run from Rt. 18 to the South Terminal. The Mayor and the members of the task force also emphasized the importance of finding funding for the commuter rail project.
