The names of 36 local veterans killed in the Korean War were read aloud Monday during the Re-Dedication of the Korean War Memorial at Clasky Park.

Among those present were former Mayor Fred Kalisz, and former Councilors George Rogers and George Smith, who played key roles on the monument committee.

Howie Prescott was among the Korean War veterans who pushed for the monument.  Prescott saw two of his buddies die in Korea, but somehow, he survived.

Prescott and Korean War veteran Joe Barbero laid a wreath at the base of the monument that was erected in 2003.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the truce that ended the Korean conflict.
