BOSTON - A New Bedford man faces nearly six years in prison for his connection to a heroin and Fentanyl trafficking operation in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts U.S. Attorney's Office says Cory Nickerson, 33, pleaded guilty in March to one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribution of heroin and Fentanyl.

A 15-month federal investigation resulted in charges against Nickerson and 25 other individuals in connection to the drug trafficking operation in Taunton and surrounding areas.

Prosecutors say Nickerson was in the mid-to-lower tier of the operation, and was responsible for arranging drug deals for a third party while he was using heroin.

He was sentenced Wednesday to serve 71 months in prison.
