A New Bedford man has been arraigned on an upgraded charge after a nine-month-old child suffered fatal injuries while in his care.

23-year-old Ethen Harrison pleaded not guilty to a single charge of murder today in New Bedford District Court, charged in the death of Ariel Eluziario last month.

Assistant Bristol County District Attorney Steve Nadeau is prosecuting the case, and says Harrison's initial report to the police is damning evidence.

According to court documents, on the night of January 24, Harrison was babysitting the child when she became fussy, causing him to drop the child on the floor, hitting her head. He then forcefully tossed her on the bed, with the child bouncing off and hitting her head once more.

Ariel passed away early the next morning.

Harrison is being held without bail and is due back in court on March 25.
