The New Bedford City Council's Special Committee on Dog Parks  held a short meeting Thursday night.

Officials say they still believe a regional dog park could work despite the Dartmouth Dog Advisory Work Group rejecting New Bedford's invitation to meet with them Thursday night. Ward 5 Councilor Jane Gonsalves and Ward 6 City Councilor Joe Lopes proposed that New Bedford open a dialogue with the Dartmouth organization about the possibility of New Bedford residents using Dartmouth's Proposed dog park off Old Fall River Road as well as its own site. Gonsalves says her committee will be seeking advice on sites for the park.

Possible locations include the Airport, Hazelwood Park and the Morse Twist Drill site. Gonsalves added the final decision on the dog park will be up to the Mayor. The council's sub committee is offering to meet with the Dartmouth group to discuss the dog park issue in the future.
