New Bedford Police have arrested local couple in connection with a computer fraud scheme.

Earlier this month, detectives were contacted by Dell Computers, alleging the company had been defrauded by New Bedford resident Paul Marino. The company claimed Marino, using several aliases, would order electronic equipment online, and then call Dell to complain that the items he ordered were damaged or the wrong item. Dell would send Marino replacement items, but Marino never sent the reported damaged items back.

Detectives executed a warrant at Marino's Plymouth Street home Friday morning, where they seized computer equipment and televisions valued at over $30,000. A loaded shotgun was found under the bed.

Police arrested Marino's wife, Maureen Egan, who claimed the gun was hers but did not possess an FID card or a license to carry. She faces several firearms-related charges along with receiving stolen property. Egan has been arraigned in New Bedford District Court.

Marino was not home at the time of the search, but turned himself into police Friday afternoon. He's charged with six counts of larceny over $250 and will be arraigned in New Bedford District Court Monday.

The couple have a five-year-old daughter who was also home at the time. DCF has taken possession of the child.

Marino has several similar cases pending against him. He was charged earlier this month under CWD Construction with receiving $68,000 from a New Bedford homeowner for work that was never completed. Similar cases involving Marino are also pending in Wrentham District Court. He is currently on federal probation for fraudulent activities.
