New Bedford City Worker Killed in Freak Accident

A New Bedford City employee died this morning after being found unconscious and pinned between the bucket and cab of a Bobcat front-end loader.
Detective Captain Steve Vicente says police responded late this morning to the Water Department Building on Shawmut Avenue and started piecing together some facts.

55-year-old Carlos Tabares was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital and pronounced dead.
Mayor Jon Mitchell says it’s a sad day for the city.

Mitchell says grief counselors are on hand for the family and co-workers of Tabares.
Officials say Tabares had worked for the City for about nine years.
The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
