New Bedford needs more soccer fields.  That's the opinion of Councilor At Large David Alves and other members of the Council.  Alves says as a City Councilor, the question about soccer fields is one he hears alot.  He tells WBSM News, there aren't many open spaces left in New Bedford that can be converted into soccer fields.....

Alves is inviting the general public to a meeting November 27 at City Hall to discuss the issue.

Alves has filed a motion for Tuesday's City Council meeting, asking the City Solicitor to check on the status of land at the end of Morton Avenue in New Bedford.  At one time that area has been designated as a site for soccer fields, but nothing has been done there.
