New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell is submitting his tax plan to the City Council Monday Night.

He is requesting the Council set a tax rate for 2013 that will keep residential taxes virtually level while lowering taxes on businesses. Under the Mayor's proposal the average homeowner will see their yearly tax rate up about $2.

This would be the third straight year the city has declined to raise the tax levy by 2.5 per cent. Meanwhile the Chamber of Commerce has proposed a rate that will result in an equal share of any increase to be borne by residential and commercial properties.
