Swansea Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon motor vehicle accident that has left one man dead, according to a release from the Bristol County District Attorney's Office. 

According to the release, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Swansea Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a crash on Maple Avenue, south of Route 6, involving a motorcycle and Volkswagon Jetta.

The operator of the motorcycle has ben identified as Jamie Tavares, 44, of Swansea. He was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to an initial investigation, the motorcycle was traveling south on Maple Ave. when it collided with the Volkswagon, operated by a 52-year-old Swansea woman. The woman was uninjured.

The crash is being investigated by the Swansea Police Accident Reconstruction Unit with assistance from the Swansea Police Detective Division and the State Police Detectives assigned to the DA's Office. No foul play is suspected in this matter at this time.
