Now-former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is being charged with first-degree murder in connection with a homicide that occurred near his home.

Hernandez was arraigned today in Attleboro, hours after his arrest from his home.  Hernandez had been investigated for days in connection with the shooting death of semi-pro player Odin Lloyd.  Lloyd's body was found about a mile from Hernandez's home.

Hernandez appeared in court handcuffed with a white T-shirt and showed no emotion during the proceeding.  He was ordered held without bail and is being held at at the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth.

The prosecutor in the case said Hernandez and Lloyd were seen on surveillance video in the minutes before Lloyd's death.  He added that video also showed Hernandez holding a gun upon returning to his home.

Police allegedly retrieved shell casings and tire impressions that connect the homicide to Hernandez.  The prosecutor in the case said it's believed Hernandez was upset with Lloyd on the night Lloyd died and sent a text saying that he can't trust anyone.

Earlier in the day, the New England Patriots officially announced they were releasing Hernandez from his contract.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
