Every city in America should be doing what New Bedford is doing, when it comes to solar power.  Those are the thoughts of Mayor Jon Mitchell, as he announced the start of a solar project at a former brownfields site, between New Bedford High School and the Hetland Rink.

State, federal and local officials joined the Mayor for the announcement.  Mayor Mitchell says solar energy farms near the High School, at the city's water treatment facility in Lakeville, and atop public buildings will pay off big for New Bedford.....

Officials say the work near the High School will begin in a few weeks.

Beaumont Solar Company of New Bedford will join other partners during the installation phase.  Company President Phil Cavalho attended the announcement along with three recent graduates of Greater New Bedford Voke Tech, who will be working on the job.
