Mayor Jon Mitchell says in dealing with it's own police involved shootings, New Bedford has some lessons Ferguson, Missouri can benefit from.

During his weekly radio program, Mitchell referred to the 2012 fatal police shooting of 15-year-old Malcolm Gracia, who had stabbed one police officer and charged at others before he was shot dead in Temple Landing.

Mitchell says the City acted immediately, and worked to strengthen ties between police officers and the community.

Mitchell says there have not been any local demonstrations in regards to the Ferguson Grand Jury's decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

He says many communities have lackluster relationships between police and neighborhoods, and that needs to be addressed.
