Missing Kayaker Found

The search for the missing kayaker off the coast of West Island in Fairhaven concluded just after 5:30 Friday Morning when officer James Bettencourt located Gary Alves walking on the beach just west of Hoppy's Landing.

Alves, 57, was reported missing Friday night when he failed to return to work after taking his kayak out for an afternoon cruise.

A large scale search was launched to locate Alves after his kayak fwas found washed ashore and abandoned on the southern point of West Island.

Numerous public safety agencies assisted in the search. (WBSM)
