Many apple orchards across New England are facing shortages after a warm spring and late April freeze killed early blossoms.   Apple production is down nationwide, and the same holds true for orchards here is Greater New Bedford.  John Peters of the Peters Family Orchard and Cider Mill in Acushnet says his production this fall is off about 75%, and there's not much he can do about it.

Peters says he had to purchase apples from other growers in the region in order to meet the demand.   New England growers say there are still enough apples in the region and urge visitors to stop by their favorite orchards.
