Middleboro Fatal Head-On Crash Claims Life of SUV Driver

MIDDLEBORO (WBSM) — A fatal head-on motor vehicle crash this afternoon in Middleboro claimed the life of an SUV driver.

According to a joint release from Middleboro Police Chief Joseph Perkins and Fire Chief Owen Thompson, the crash occurred on Wareham Street (Route 28) shortly before 1:30 p.m. today.

Police and fire personnel responded to Route 28 in the area of Cushman Street and Rocky Gutter Street for a reported head-on crash. A delivery truck and SUV had collided and subsequently caught fire.

The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital, where they died as a result of their injuries. The driver’s identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the delivery truck was also transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Their condition was not listed in the release.

There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The release said Route 28 is closed to traffic between Cushman Street and Rocky Gutter Street while first responders remain on scene, and that the crash remains under investigation by Middleboro Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
