Like many in Massachusetts, Mayor Jon Mitchell says he's disappointed that Boston will not be hosting the 2024 Olympics after all.

The U-S Olympic Committee withdrew Boston's bid on Monday after Mayor Marty Walsh declined to sign an agreement that would have had Boston picking up the tab if the Olympics had gone over-budget.

Boston 2024 had named New Bedford and Buzzards Bay as the Olympic Sailing venue. That won't happen now, but Mayor Mitchell says there's been a financial boost just from that limited exposure.

The Mayor says the local marina's are full and there's a lot more recreational boaters in the harbor. "We would have loved to host an Olympic sailing event for sure, but its fair to say we gained a tremendous benefit by being in the game," said Mitchell.

One member of the Mayor's Olympic Steering Committee suggests the opposition that arose to Boston hosting the Summer Games in 2024, may lead Olympic officials to shy away from Boston in the future.

Dan Cooney, the Vice Commodore of the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion says what happened this year was a once-in-a multiple generation opportunity.

With Boston out, it now appears that Los Angeles may be the U-S designee for the 2024 Olympic bid.
