Mayor Jon Mitchell Takes The “Ice Bucket Challenge”

Not even Mayor Jon Mitchell could escape the viral "ice bucket challenge" that has been sweeping social media.

Mitchell was nominated by Standard Times reporter Jonathan Carvalho to pour a bucket of ice water over his head and donate $10 to research for ALS, or donate $100 if he decided not to participate.

Mitchell not only donated $100, his daughter and several city employees were glad to dump the ice cold water over the mayor, who says it was fun, but it's all to raise awareness.

Mayor Mitchell nominated the residents of the City of New Bedford to take the challenge and more importantly, donate to research for ALS.
