Mayor Further Explains Opposition To Casino Plan

Mayor Jon Mitchell says KG Urban's plan for a waterfront casino could hurt New Bedford's downtown.

KG Urban this week rejected an alternative plan offered by the Mayor for a waterfront casino, and said the project now appears to be dead.

Mitchell says the developers plan would have included retail stores and more.....

Reflecting on his opposition, Mitchell says he did what he thought was best for the City of New Bedford.

The Mayor said he'd rather see a casino located on the city owned golf course off Hathaway Road.
