Regardless of the outcome of a "no confidence" vote taken by teachers against Dr. Pia Durkin, Mayor Jon Mitchell says the Superintendent still has the support of himself and the School Committee.

Members of the New Bedford Educators Association have been voting over several days, and results are expected to be announced Thursday.

Mitchell talked about the vote Wednesday on his weekly radio program, saying he wished more teachers would talk to him privately about their feelings.

The mayor added though, teachers are probably afraid there would be blowback from the union if they did.
