Rafting America says, "Massachusetts rafting options are plentiful, offering a wide variety of experiences." The site lists recommendations for whitewater rafting adventures on the Concord River, Deerfield River and Millers River and where to find whitewater kayak lessons.

The site includes recommendations for the best time of the year to tackle the river, the intensity of the adventure, and the suggested minimum age for whitewater rafters.

If you are willing to travel a little further from home, whitewater adventures await you on the Penobscot River and the Kennebec River in Maine. Rafting America recommends Vermont's West River, which it calls "one of Vermont's hidden treasures."

Outdoors.org suggests nine potential whitewater rafting adventures in New England and the Northeast, including the Androscoggin River in Errol, New Hampshire, the Hudson River in North River, New York, the Lehigh River in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania and the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers in Maryland.
