With fireworks being sold in neighboring Rhode Island and New Hampshire, State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan says the temptation is great to go out and buy fireworks ahead of the 4th of July weekend in Massachusetts.

But Coan reminds Mass. residents fireworks of any kind are illegal in the state, and as he tells WBSM's "Mid-Day Live", he hopes they remain that way.

Fire Marshal Coan says even in states where fireworks are legal, there is still controversy surrounding the issue.

Coan says eye and limb injuries top the number of fireworks related emergency calls on Independence Day weekends.

He encourages folks to stay safe, and enjoy the fireworks displays put on by licensed professionals.
