Mass. US House Delegation Seeking To End Shutdown
Massachusetts' all-Democratic U.S. House delegation is calling on Republican Speaker John Boehner to allow a vote on a resolution to end the government shutdown.
The eight representatives say Boehner should let the House vote on a so-called ``clean continuing resolution'' that would restart the government without outside provisions. House Republicans have brought resolutions to end the government shutdown. Some of those resolutions would also defund or delay President Barack Obama's health care law. In the letter to Boehner, the delegation is also calling on the speaker to allow a debate to raise the nation's debt limit, also free of outside provisions or conditions. Boehner on Thursday proposed a short-term increase in the federal debt limit if Obama agrees to negotiate with Republicans on a broader budget deal _ an offer that wouldn't end the shutdown.
