The Massachusetts State Police have issued an apology for re-tweeting an apparently fake Twitter account allegedly raising money for Boston Marathon victims.

Under #embarrassed," the State Police Twitter account advised followers to ignore the account @bostonmarathons, which claimed to be donating one-dollar for each re-tweet to victims of the marathon bombing.

State and federal officials say that spam emails claiming to be charities raising money for victims were sent within hours of the bombs going off at the marathon finish line.
