New Bedford Police say one man suffered injuries following a shooting Sunday night.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that at approximately 9:50 p.m. officers were sent to the area of Ashley Blvd. and Sawyer St. after 911 calls and the Shotspotter reported gunshots in the area.

Upon arrival officers found the victim, identified as a 24-year-old New Bedford man who is known to the police, sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot.

Vicente says it's believed that the vehicle was specifically targeted and that the man may have suffered a grazing wound to his abdomen area in addition to being struck by breaking glass.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene and said he would probably take himself to the hospital later.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Tyrone Jones at 508-991-6300 ext. 79513 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
