A Brockton man is facing firearms charges following his arrest Sunday night in Taunton.

Massachusetts State Police say a trooper was on patrol when he spotted a grey sedan committing several motor vehicle violations.

The trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle which eventually stopped on Paul Bunker Dr.

Two men then fled from the vehicle with one of the men seen entering a home on that street.

A perimeter was established during which time a trooper located a Walther .380 handgun, which had been discarded by the fleeing man.

Another firearm, a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, was located near where the men had fled from the vehicle.

One man, identified as 29-year-old Alezio Lopes, was located in the home and placed under arrest.

Lopes was held without bail pending his arraignment in Taunton District Court on charges of Firearm without FID card, Subsequent offense and Possession of ammunition without FID card.

State Police also say that Lopes also has an outstanding warrant for firearms violations from the Brockton District Court.
