Governor Charlie Baker has issued an executive order, reshaping the way the State addresses municipal issues. The order creates a Community Compact, complete with a cabinet chaired by Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, and a Department of Revenue representative.

Speaking in New Bedford Thursday, Polito says the Community Compact will help cut a lot of red tape cities and towns have to go through, "So when it comes to unfunded mandates, and compliance requirements and regulations that might be a barrier to the growth or helping this community achieve their plan, then we need to really look at that and peel some of that back so that this community can move forward."

Polito says the compact also helps the State understand what the goals of each municipality are, and will allow the State to be a better partner in helping communities achieve those goals.
