An alert Police officer makes an arrest early Monday in a larceny case at a local convenience store.

A clerk at Sam's Mobil Gas Station on Ashley Boulevard reported to Police that a man had entered the store, and taken a charity money box that was on the counter.  The man ran out of the store and the clerk gave chase, but the robber got away.

Officer Dan Duclos responded, and within minutes spotted a man matching the description of the suspect walking in the neighborhood.

Twenty-six year old  Patrick Maccini was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Maccini was identified by the store clerk, but the charity box was not recovered.

The suspect is charged with larceny from a person and resisting arrest, and was arraigned Monday in New Bedford District Court.
