Jimmy Buffett passed away on September 1, 2023 in Sag Harbor, New York. Buffett's death shocked his fan base, as many Parrotheads were unaware of the seriousness of his illness.

Born December 25, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, Buffett, a legendary singer-songwriter, created an entire lifestyle often referred to as "island escapism" and invited his fans to follow along – and they did.

Buffett died from complications from Merkel-cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive skin cancer, with which he had been diagnosed four years earlier.

Before his death, Buffett recorded a new album to be released after he passed. That album, Equal Strains on All Parts, was released in the fall of 2023. It will be a classic.

Among the many typical Jimmy Buffett tunes on the new album, songs such as "Bubbles Up", a message to the faithful to keep the chins – not just the fins – up and the party going, "Like My Dog" and "My Gummie Just Kicked In" are classic Jimmy Buffett.

Also on the album is "Portugal or PEI," a song in which Buffett laments about where he might go "when the volcano blows." One possibility, according to Buffett, is a "beach bar near Sagres."

Sagres is a civil parish in the municipality of Vila do Bispo in the southern Algarve of Portugal.

PEI refers to Prince Edward Island in the Canadian Maritimes.

In the song "Volcano," released as part of the 1979 album of the same name, Buffett made clear where he didn't want to go when the volcano blows: "I don't want to land in no Buzzards Bay," Buffett sang.

Buffett, a "Son of a Son of a Sailor," spent a great deal of time sailing the waters of Southern New England but denied in an interview with me several years ago that he ever owned property in Onset. Try convincing the locals.

Buffett's final public performance was at Sunset Cove in Portsmouth, Rhode Island on July 2, 2023.

Buffett spent considerable time on Nantucket over the years. In August 1994, Buffett crash landed his Grumman G-44 Widgeon seaplane into Market Harbor on Nantucket. The Nantucket Currant recalled that while banged up, Buffett was not seriously injured.

See Inside Jimmy Buffett's Staggering $6.9 Million Palm Beach Mansion

Jimmy Buffett sure knew how to live the good life. His former 3-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom, 4,039-square-foot mansion in the exclusive Eden Properties neighborhood in Palm Beach is exactly the kind of laid-back home you'd expect the superstar to relax in when he was off the road.

The interior centers around a combined dining and living room with eye-popping vaulted ceilings topped off by skylights, while a massive wall of mahogany-framed sliding glass doors looks out over the pool area outside. The kitchen is decorated in gleaming white, and each of the bedrooms has its own attached bathroom, while the massive master suite also has sliding glass doors that open to both the pool and a bathroom that looks like it belongs in a high-end resort.

The exterior of the house is just as striking, centered around a sparkling pool of deep cobalt blue. The pool area features plenty of lounging, and a loggia just outside the living room offers open-air dining. There are lush gardens, brick paths that walk through elaborate pergolas and a fountain. The property also features a two-car garage with a guest suite overhead, and it offers deeded access to the beach nearby.
