April is National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. However, sexual assault is a year-round tragedy. We need to keep the conversation going as long as it exists in our society. According to Justice.gov, sexual assault is defined as "any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient. Falling under the definition of sexual assault are sexual activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation, incest, fondling, and attempted rape."

President Obama has released a new campaign called It's On Us, and it's imperative for everyone to take the pledge. This 30 second video makes our role in sexual assault very clear. We can "promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution." Take the pledge to protect our daughters, sisters, and friends from sexual assault. Take the pledge to teach our sons, brothers, and friends about respect. Take the pledge to be the change you wish to see in the world.
