The City of New Bedford held a public meeting last night on the planned improvements to the Octopus intersection Downtown.

One of the biggest changes with the project will be removing the pedestrian bridge over Route 6.

Project Manager Kevin Johnson said the currently closed bridge will be replaced by multiple crosswalk improvements, with pedestrian safety being the main concern.

Construction is set to begin in late spring and take 3 to 4 months to complete.

Officials said the project won't effect vehicle traffic, as most work will be done on sidewalks and pedestrian islands.
