Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson is joining Sheriffs around the country this week calling for tougher immigration laws.

Speaking from the Immigration Detention Center in Dartmouth, Hodgson says the federal government is allowing immigrants with criminal backgrounds to remain in the country. "We are spending resources, time and energy getting these bad guys out of our neighborhoods, and the Federal Government is releasing them right back into the neighborhoods and they're committing more and more crimes," said the Sheriff.

Hodgson says the immigrant population at the Bristol County facility has dropped from a high of 232 in June of last year, to 67 right now. Hodgson supports the positions of a national sheriff's association that wants to see the U-S first secure its borders especially in the Southwest, and then station Immigration Judges there to determine who can remain and who should be sent back.

Hodgson blames the lack of immigration reform on both parties in Congress. And while declining to endorse Donald Trump for President, Hodgson says on the immigration issue, Trump is a champion of the people.
