Public safety officials throughout Bristol County have acknowledged a dramatic spike in heroin overdoses cases.

Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson addressed the crisis during his monthly appearance on WBSM's "More Than Just Talk" program.

Hodgson beleives drug prevention efforts must start with at-risk children at a very young age......

But Hodgson doubts politicians would ever get behind such a measure, because kids don't vote, and no elected official wants to wait ten years to see if it works.

The Sheriff says 80% of inmates at the House of Correction are there because of involvement with illegal drugs.

He says inmates are given the chance to take part in intense counseling programs during their time at the House of Correction, and prior to their release they map out a game plan with counselors to help them stay drug-free.
