Marco Moniz was cleared Thursday by a Fall River Superior Court jury of drug charges that were brought in February 2009. Prosecutors said the Bristol County Sheriff's Office internal affairs division found that Moniz dropped a Skoal tin with a brown powder into it into a trash can for retrieval later by the inmate.

Moniz's lawyer said the whole thing was a set up and his client was entrapped by a clever inmate. The Herald News reports that Moniz took the stand in his own defense to say the inmate had threatened to harm his family unless he brought in the contraband.
