WAREHAM - A Falmouth teen is arrested after leading police on a potentially dangerous chase in Wareham.

Wareham Police received an alert from Yarmouth Police around 6 a.m. Friday to be on the lookout for an unlicensed male operating a red pickup truck possibly heading to Wareham after making threats in Yarmouth.

The vehicle was soon spotted on Onset Avenue by Wareham Police Sergeant Dan Henderson, who attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The operator refused to stop and instead accelerated and sped down the opposite side of Onset Avenue, cutting through numerous side streets in the area of Freshmeadow Drive, Bertino Street, and Midway Street. Police say the suspect's vehicle damaged a lawn and a fence in that area.

Police called off the chase, choosing to only monitor the vehicle for safety reasons.

In a matter of minutes, the suspect vehicle pulled into the Wareham Police Department parking lot on Route 28, where the operator, Chad Fernandes, 19, of Falmouth, was placed under arrest after a brief time of refusing to exit the truck.

Fernandes is being arraigned Friday in Wareham District Court. Fernandes faces the following charges:

  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Negligent Operation
  • Marked Lanes Violations
  • Speeding
  • Leaving the Scene After Causing Property Damage
