A Fall River man will spend at least the next 30 years in state prison for the brutal rape of an elderly woman.

Judge William Sullivan sentenced 26 year old Christopher Stiles to 30 to 45 years in prison, accepting the recommendation of District Attorney Thomas Quinn who took the unusual step of appearing in court and arguing for the longer sentence. Stiles' attorney had recommended a sentence of 25 to 35 years for his client.

Stiles pled guilty to ten counts in connection with the rape of a 65 year old woman in April 2013.

Prosecutors said Stiles forced his way into the woman's apartment and repeatedly raped her, punching her in the face several times, and striking her in the head with a ceramic object.

The woman suffered a broken jaw, lingering severe headaches, a broken nose, and a permanent injury to her right hand.

D-A Quinn said it was an extremely brutal and vicious crime.

He praised the victim for coming to court, and explaining how the brutal assault affected her both mentally and phiysically. Quinn says he has nothing but admiration for the her.
