Fairhaven Police are hunting for a man who allegedly attacked a town official with a shovel Tuesday night on Oxford Street.

Sgt. Kevin Kobza says police received a 9-1-1 call around 7pm. Officers responded to the scene and found the injured man. He's identified as Jay Simmons, a member of the Fairhaven Conservation Commission and Housing Authority.

Simmons told Police he was attacked by an unkown white male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The victim was transported to St. Lukes Hospital, and then taken to Rhode Island hospital for further treatment.

Sgt. Kobza says police are continuing to look for the suspect.
