A Massachusetts man serving probation for a previous rape conviction has pleaded guilty to traveling to Rhode Island to engage in sexual activity with a minor.

Robert Eccleston, of Fairhaven, entered his plea in federal court Thursday.

Prosecutors say the 56-year-old Eccleston left his job to meet who he thought was a 15-year-old boy from East Providence in July 2016.

Authorities say Eccleston was actually communicating with a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security.

Prosecutors say the two met after Eccleston responded to a Craigslist ad describing a single male who was looking for video games to play.

Eccleston had six months left on his probation from the previous conviction. He faces sentencing for the new charge in December.
