FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — A portion of Fairhaven's Fort Phoenix was shut down this morning following a reported suicide.

According to a witness who asked to remain anonymous, a male who appeared to be in his 20s shot himself on the rocks just near the cannons sometime before 11 a.m.

The witness said he heard the gunshot and went over to see "blood all over the rocks."

WBSM arrived at the scene shortly before noon to find the rocks that faced the ocean taped off with police tape and multiple officers present.

A young woman with streaks of what appeared to be blood on her knees, clothing and face was standing next to a plainclothes officer.

She was later driven away by the officer in a Fairhaven Police cruiser.

Officials have not confirmed the suicide, but WBSM has sent an email requesting more information to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, and will update this story if more information becomes available.
