City leaders and benefactors are hoping for smooth sailing for the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey in the years ahead.

More than 50 supporters of the vessel gathered at the Whaling Museum Thursday to mark the start of a $6 million restoration project, funded by the state and private doners.

Robert Hildreth of Boston and Gerry Lenfest of Philadelphia are contributing nearly $3 million dollars for the project. Hildreth shared his vision on the future of the Ernestina-Morrissey.....

The Patrick Administration is investing $2.5 million in the project, and the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey association is raising $1 million.

The restoration will be done in Maine and is expected to take at least two years.
